New Metal Releases January 23rd 2026

Starting to pick up a little bit with 32 releases this week. So far 2026 has been pretty good for me as far as music goes. This week looks promising too. Maybe it’s because it’s winter, but there are quite a few doom, death / doom and depressive black metal releases.
Stand outs this week:
Tjaktjadálvve - Third album from Swedish one man depressive black metal band. Tons of emotion and atmosphere in this one and it sounds very promising.
Sacrificial Death - Debut album from death / thrash metal band out of Greece. Sounds like a really good blend of the two genre’s.

Not sure I know a lot of artists I’m interested in this week but I’ll check out what you’ve mentioned and there’s a few good FFO. Rotting Christ has a re-recording of Aeolo out too, not sure how different it is going to be from the original. I loved what sigh did with hangman’s hymn but there’s also a lot of sort of bad or unnecessary re-recordings too.
Incredible curration this week, especially the death/doom picks. The observation about winter bringing out heavier, darker releases absolutely tracks with what I've noticed on Bandcamp lately. I've been sleeping on the Scandinavian depressive black metal scene untill recent months, but this makes a solid case for diving into Tjaktjadálvve. Barbarian's album title alone is chef's kiss.
