Formed by anonymous musicians from long-running and acclaimed black metal bands, Achathras are a new project celebrating the early to late-90s European black metal sound. Their debut album, "A Darkness of the Ancient Past", will be released on 1 September via Cult Never Dies.

Cult Never Dies aims to celebrate the past and present of extreme and underground metal. While many newer bands claim to draw upon "true" and "old school" black metal, this often involves recycling the template set by the same three or four early 90s Norwegian acts.
Achathras instead offer a much broader embrace of those glory years, resurrecting the values of the early to late 1990s European black metal scene, a period when aggressive riffs, atmospheric songwriting, caustic vocals, and otherworldly synth work provided an alternative to the mainstream.
The band's debut album can be described as epic and at times melodic. The songwriting recalls acts such as early Gehenna, Odium, Emperor, Hecate Enthroned, Obtained Enslavement, Taake, Old Man’s Child, Ancient, Dimmu Borgir, Abigor, Covenant, Forefather and Mork Gryning.
