Huge month of releases this month and some that will most likely make my year end list. I spent a lot of time the last two weeks catching up on new releases so I am getting this one out a little earlier than usual.
Panta Rhei by Boötes Void
Black Metal from Germany
Third album from these guys and this one might be my favorite of the month. I’ve seen a lot of praise for this one on social media and for good reason, it’s a fantastic album.
Tähtien ikuinen suru by Beyond Seventh Dimension
Atmospheric Black Metal from Finland
Debut album from this duo. Initially started as a solo instrumental project, vocals were added after the first song and an album was planned. Could be a full band in the future but that remains to be seen.
Aura by Vanessa Funke
Melodic Death Metal with Gothic and Black Metal elements from Germany
Fifth album from this solo project. I discovered her last year with her release, Requiem, and have been a huge fan since. All of her releases have been fantastic and this one might actually be the best one.
Slime Dimension by Slime Dimension
Melodic Death Metal from Australia
Debut album from these guys and it’s amazing. Can’t wait to hear more from them. Melodic death metal with aggressive riffs, melodies and sci-fi horror themes. It’s a really great combination and works very well.
Unravelling by Exitium Sui
Atmospheric Blackened Funeral Doom Metal from Germany
Third album from this solo project. I’m a fan of funeral doom if I’m in the right mood and this one is amazing. If you are not a fan of funeral doom, this one is worth checking out with the atmospheric blackened elements. From their Bandcamp: “Confronting the dark chasms of the human psyche, “Unravelling” negotiates liminal space between utter chaos, complete seclusion, and fathomless depravity.”
Barmhjertighetens Fallitt by Vingulmork
Blackened Thrash Metal from Norway
Second album 7 years on from this blackened thrash band with melodic elements. Lyrics focusing on anguish and despair.
Revival by The Noctambulant
Melodic Black Metal from the US
This is an interesting one with several things going on. Their Bandcamp sums it up perfectly I think: “Being steeped in the traditions of Blues, Rockabilly, Goth rock and American Country, The Noctambulant has found their niche in the Southern Gothic motif that they were raised around, while keeping their signature Black Metal sound.”
Dream Death by Hanging Garden
Progressive Death Metal from the US
Not to be confused with the melodic death / doom metal band from Finland, this is some really great prog death with some tech and melodic elements mixed in.
Honorable Mention
Black Metal from Germany
Atmospheric Depressive Black Metal from Canada
Melodic Black Metal from Norway
Black Metal from Sweden / Italy
