Great month of releases. My list is mostly death metal with a few black metal albums and a majority are melodic. I’m a little late this month. Work has been brutal and with a big release day on the 30th, it just took me a little longer to get through all of them. But I think this is a good list and these are all great. Let me know what you liked from this month in the comments.
Immanence by Hatalom
Technical Death Metal from Canada
Fantastic tech death. Bass is more forward in the mix than most which is a good thing in my mind. Fans of bands like Allegaeon, Inferi and Fleshbore should definitely check this one out.
The Mother Void by Iapetus
Melodic Progressive Death Metal from the US
Incredible album. This will almost certainly end up in my top 10 for the year. Fabienne Erni from Eluveitie filling in on clean vocals. Long time subscribers may remember that I am not a fan of clean vocals unless they are done very well. The usual exception to that is female vocals and they work so well in here.
Lux Ex Inferis by Servant
Black Metal from Germany
From their Bandcamp: “Expanding on their established style, the new record merges epic structures and haunting melodies, creating a multi-layered sonic landscape where passion meets grandeur.”
An Heir to All the Ills of Flesh by A Distorted Utopia
Technical Melodic Death Metal from the UK
Second album 10 years on from Richard Allsopp, best known for his work with melodic, technical death metal band Monachopsis. Richard states: “It's nice to have that little creative hollow that's truly your own and for me that's A Distorted Utopia. It's also a space I feel like I can be truly honest with myself thematically and lyrically - and some of my lyrical content has got very dark and very personal over recent years.”
Abyssal by Inquinamentum
Atmospheric Melodic Black Metal from the UK
Late entry this month coming out on the 30th. I’m glad I waited to get this list out so I didn’t miss this one because it’s fantastic.
Latent by Einvigi
Post Black Metal from Finland
Originally starting out as a folk / post metal band, they have grown darker and changed into more of a post black metal genre. They have also moved to English with their lyrics.
Revenant by Wraithstorm
Melodic Death Metal from the US
Originally a funeral doom band, this second release is a melodic death metal album. Featuring Alicia Cordisco (Alicia Cordisco, Judicator, Transgressive), Lux Edwards (Soulmass) and Leona Hayward (Transgressive, Owlbear) this is a stacked lineup and it shows.
The Light That Keeps Us by Mother of Graves
Melodic Death / Doom Metal from the US
For some reason their album, The Periapt of Absence from 2024, didn’t speak to me. This one does. Much better in my opinion and their best one to date.
Honorable Mention
These are all EP’s so they didn’t make my main list but they are all worth mentioning.
Melodic Blackened Death Metal from the US
Melodic Black Metal from France
Melodic Death Metal from Finland
