Following their evolution from a studio project in 2022 into a full band in 2023, Kybalion continue to refine their identity with a release that is both sonically aggressive and conceptually driven. The new EP draws inspiration from Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s novel Der Verdacht (The Suspicion), exploring themes of absolute power and its psychological consequences - anxiety, guilt, and moral distortion.

Structured as four acts, Make the World Bleed represents different states of consciousness of an individual attempting to rise beyond human law and fear. The band frames this journey as an inevitable collapse: when a species is confronted with power too vast to comprehend or control, the result is destruction - it will make the world bleed.

Musically, Kybalion expand their modern black metal sound with dissonant textures, frantic riffing, and bleak atmospheres. Influenced by noir and obscure cinema, their compositions blend dark soundscapes, occasional d-beat passages, and decaying melodic lines, reinforcing the band’s stark and oppressive aesthetic.

Kybalion’s work remains deeply rooted in a visual and philosophical framework, drawing from Absurdism, Cosmic Pessimism, and Futurism. Their imagery evokes a grotesque extension of human conscience.

The EP’s cover art features “The Astral Body” (1903) by Sascha Schneider (Der Astralmensch).

The Finnish classic Gothenburg-style melodic death metal band Morbid Intent are set to release their debut EP Marionettes later in 2026 via Inverse Records. The first single ‘Ashen Veil’ is unleashed today and it’s accompanied by a music video which can be seen here:

Morbid Intent is an upcoming melodic death metal act formed in Oulu, Finland. Looking to take the scene by storm, Morbid Intent will release their debut EP “Marionettes” in 2026. The main inspiration for the band is the classic Göteborg-style melodic death metal mixed with a splash of modern extreme metal aggression. Fast blast beats, crushing riffs, and haunting melodies are to be expected.

The band members have experience playing in bands such as Mors Subita, Electric Deathbeat, Swansong, Se, Josta Ei Puhuta.

Bergen, Norway & Athens, Greece; 20 May 2026: Bergen-based melodic black metal outfit Sworn have announced that their fifth album, “Null Crowned the Infinite”, will be released on 4 September 2026. Pre-orders for the physical versions licensed to The Circle Music are available now.

Three years following the critically acclaimed “A Journey told through Fire” (2023), the new album navigates a sprawling conceptual narrative, tracing the cyclical nature of the cosmos from its initial spark in the void to its inevitable dissolution.

Lyrically, the album explores the terrifying scale of cosmic darkness and the fragility of existence within a primordial emptiness. Sworn investigates the philosophy of becoming and unmaking, where reality and time emerge from nothingness only to eventually collapse back into the same unfathomable origin. Musically, “Null Crowned the Infinite” pushes the boundaries of the band's established sound, balancing their signature melodic tension with newfound levels of aggression and atmospheric depth. The record features "The Starless Origin", a twelve-minute epic that stands as their longest composition to date, alongside "Fracture of Aeons", which the band identifies as their most aggressive track ever recorded.

Sworn collaborated with renowned producer Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios, who handled the mixing and mastering. Bogren’s legendary portfolio, featuring giants such as Opeth, Arch Enemy and Behemoth, brings a polished yet devastating edge to the performances of Max Wilson, Christoffer Kjørsvik, Gøran Hope and Tom Ian Klungland. The album artwork is equally striking, created by Pär Olofsson, known for his iconic work with Aborted and Kreator.

While Sworn continues to operate as an independent entity for the recording and production, they have partnered with The Circle Music to handle the physical releases under a special licensing deal. The release includes a Digipak CD alongside two distinct vinyl variants: Marbled Smoke and Marbled Green.

The project brings together multi-instrumentalist Joe McAnaney and vocalist Tom McRann. Across ten tracks, the album moves through blackened thrash, death metal and technical extreme metal, with fast riffing, progressive structures and a strong narrative pull. The record follows a journey into deep space, from the opening “Starfall” to the closing “Wormhole / Lightchaser”, using its cosmic setting to frame ideas of expansion, survival and the unknown.

Joe McAnaney handles guitars, drums and bass, giving the album its drive and technical side, while Tom McRann’s vocals bring the harsher, more urgent feel. Songs like “The Post-Human Emergence”, “Project Infinity”, “Terminus” and “Of Digital Creation” show VOIDMAKER moving between speed, melody and more complex sections, always keeping the science fiction concept in view.

The album was mixed and mastered by Rob Kukla at Obsidian Recording Studios. The cover artwork was created by Adam Burke of Nightjar Illustration.

Following two EPs, Irish duo BalashToth return with its first full-length album, “Equation II – The Antithesis of Life and Free Will”, out June 12, with 3 tracks featuring Adam Toth (Kajgūn, ex-The Dethroners, Art of Dethronement) on viola and/or Moog synth.

BalashToth is the solo project of Balazs Toth, former guitarist of the Hungarian melodic death metal band Casketgarden. After moving to Ireland in 2012 and studying music production and mixing, he gradually turned the BalashToth name from a YouTube channel for riff challenges, covers, song recreations, gear reviews, and mixing guides into a full recording project of its own.

Following the 2023 EP Anti-Life, the 2024 EP =Equation=, and the =Anti-Life/Equation= compilation CD, BalashToth now arrives at its first full-length release. The previous EPs were well received, with Anti-Life named among the top Irish-based metal EPs of 2023 and the 2024 compilation appearing in several Hungarian year-end lists. The album also follows the 2025 Paradise Lost cover single “Mortals Watch the Day”.

Equation II - The Antithesis of Life and Free Will completes the Anti-Life Equation thread introduced on the earlier releases. Across eight full tracks and an atmospheric intermission built entirely around viola, the album explores different shades of melodic death metal, from the 280 BPM attack of “+Fear + Despair” to the old-school death metal feel of “Self = Dark Side” and the doomy closing track “x Judgement”, which features Adam Toth (Kajgün, ex-The Dethroners, Art of Dethronement) on viola. Lyrically, the record continues the themes of the previous EPs, but from a more personal and close-up perspective rather than the broader, catastrophic view of earlier material.

The first single, “÷ Misunderstanding”, leans into a more traditional melodic death metal sound, with uneasy timing shifts, a bleak atmosphere, and sorrowful vocals from Deathmetalvoicer. That collaboration began after Balazs and Deathmetalvoicer worked together on full-band covers for the BalashToth YouTube channel, including songs by The Haunted, Dimension Zero, Gates of Ishtar, Entombed, and Iron Maiden.

A second single/video, “Self = Dark Side”, follows on May 14, ahead of the album release on June 12.

“Self = Dark Side” is the second single and leans into a more groovy, old-school approach with a classic melodic death metal chorus. Lyrically, it explores the collapse of identity through endless desire, a cycle of consumption, illusion, and decay, where wanting never ends and satisfaction only deepens the void.

The photos used for cover art were taken by Péter Jakab, the former singer of the Hungarian Brutal Death Metal band, Depths of Depravity.

Stand outs this week:

• Draconian - 8th album from Swedish gothic death / doom band. One of personal favorite bands and I am very excited for this one. This is the first album with Lisa Johansson back on clean vocals. Heike Langhans is amazing but I just like Lisa a little better. Maybe it’s because their Turning Season Within album from 2008 is in my top 10 albums of all time and I’ve listened to it countless times.

• Galibot - Third album from black metal band out of France. Their release earlier this year was fantastic and made my best albums of February list. I’m hoping this one is as good or better

• Aghalmar - Debut album from atmospheric post black metal out of Germany. Sounds amazing from what I have heard so far.

• Acolythus - Debut album from black metal band out of Finland. Reminiscent of old school Finnish black metal.

I am a HUGE fan of Stortregn. Apolaustic was formed by the former Stortregn vocalist/guitarist Romain Negro as an outlet for him to express his personal vision. When left to start another band, at first I was a bit disappointed but with any luck, we’ll have two amazing bands as a result.

Melodic Technical Death Metal from the United States

Inferi’s previous album, Vile Genesis, was my favorite album from them but I think this one surpasses it. They keep getting better and there are more low growls in here than in their previous albums which I quite like.

Too Fast to Die by Archspire

Technical Death Metal from Canada

For me, this is their best album and it’s not really even close. Since they started, their goal has been to extreme above all else. This one is not just fast for the sake of being fast. They really added in some great stuff including some additional technicality and melodies.

Scarabaeus by Lividus

Blackened Melodic Death Metal from the US

This one was at the top of my stand outs when it came out on the 17th. It turned out even better than I thought it would. Very interesting combination of things going on. Her clean vocals are unique but they really work in here. This album is different and it may not be for everyone but it is worth a listen.

Death / Doom Metal From Spain

Founded in 2022 by the two founders of Helevorn, they take inspiration from 90’s death / doom. This is their second album and both are definitely worth a listen for fans of the genre.

Beyond the Will of Mortals by Volcandra

Melodic Blackened Death Metal from the US

I discovered Volcandra with their The Way of the Ancients album that came out in 2024. I think this one is actually even better than that one. Great combination of melodic, black, death and thrash.

Formed in 2007 by Revolting Rogga together with Billy from Razorback Records, the band has built a steady discography rooted in classic Swedish Death Metal, moving from the early Razorback years through a strong run on FDA Rekotz, followed by releases on Transcending Obscurity and Xtreem Music.

Polish black metal outfit Piołun returns with their second full-length album, “Exolvuntur”, set for release on 22 May 2026 via Malignant Voices.

On “Exolvuntur”, Piołun remains deeply inspired by the Scandinavian and Polish black metal scenes of the 90s, while incorporating a refined, contemporary edge. It follows the band’s 2022 debut, “Rzeki Goryczy”.

“Stylistically, it is a continuation of the preceding ‘Rzeki Goryczy’; however, it presents black metal that is more dynamic and melodic,” said the band’s founder, Sorh. “The album’s concept revolves around the cycle of life and death, referring to human transience in the face of ruthless nature. ‘Exolvuntur’ is a 37-minute journey where the wildness of traditional black metal intertwines with nostalgia and melancholy. Black metal for black metal fans.”

Sorh is widely recognised as XCIII, the guitarist for Blaze of Perdition, Oremus and Mānbryne. For this new chapter, the production was handled by one of Poland’s premier engineers, Haldor Grunberg, at Satanic Audio.

Fyrdsman is the solo vision of Tim Shaw, drawing together romanticism, history, and English folklore into a distinct form of black metal rooted in the spirit of its homeland. The project first emerged with the EP “Forgotten Beneath the Soil”, followed by the debut album “Omen in the Sky” in 2013 through Mordgrimm, which drew attention from Zero Tolerance, Kerrang!, and a range of international magazines.

With “The Free Man”, Fyrdsman returns with an evolved sound shaped by broader influences while remaining true to the project’s original purpose: exploring the timeless, the mythic, and the personal through black metal. The album is told from the perspective of a rebel confronting the reality of post-1066 England, moving through terror, loss, alienation, and a desire for revenge, driven by visions and apparitions. The songs follow a loose narrative arc, and the music shifts between light and shade to reflect that emotional journey.

The album also features drumming by Ian Finley (Nemorous, Vacivus, ex-Wodensthrone).

• At the Gates - 8th album from melodic death metal band out of Sweden. One of the forefathers of melodic death metal and the Gothenburg sound along with Dark Tranquillity and In Flames, not much else needs to be said about them. The final release with Tomas Lindberg on vocals following his death in 2025.

• Atlantic Ridge - Debut album from Italian atmospheric black metal band with some funeral doom elements. Very interesting blend and it sounds super promising.

Spanish melodic death metal band BLOODHUNTER have revealed new details on their hotly-anticipated studio album, entitled “Sons Of The Abandoned”, that is set for release on June 12, 2026 via ROAR – A Division Of Reigning Phoenix Music. Pre-orders have started today.

Accompanying the album announcement, BLOODHUNTER step it up with the release of a music video for their latest single “Threshold Of Hell”, featuring Fernando Ribeiro of Portuguese dark metal legends MOONSPELL! Leaning on crushing riffs, a commanding groove, brutal vocals and a dense, shadowy atmosphere, the track is elevated by Ribeiro’s unmistakable voice, adding depth and gravitas.

Guitarist Dani Arcos comments: “I think it’s the most complete song on the album. We worked really hard on it, both musically and in terms of sound effects, the collaboration with Fernando Ribeiro... and it also has a great groove.”

Vocalist Diva Satanica adds: “It’s an anti-war song that dissects the mysteries of human behaviour and how it seems we didn’t evolve at all, making the same mistakes of the past. We wanted to emphasize this contradiction of being an anti-war song but using the typical sounds in this context, so we created our own military march shaking some spoons inside of a cooking pot (there is even a video of us recording it).”
